Seeking students of all backgrounds who want to study and perform choral music made by, for, and about African Americans—spirituals, gospel, formally-composed works, and more.
There are two ways to audition to join the African American Choral Ensemble in Spring 2023:
Option 1: Attend In-Person Auditions

Audition Time
3:00–5:00 p.m.
(Auditions may run past 5:00 p.m., please see audition requirements)
Audition Location
Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center, Grand Hall
Audition Requirements
Prepare one piece to audition and plan to learn and perform a piece with the ensemble. You must remain for the entire time as Individual vocal assessments will follow the class and continue until all participants are assessed. No previous experience is required to audition. Instrumentalists must contact the director, Raymond Wise, at wiser@iu.edu.

Option 2: Submit a Video Audition
Submission Deadline
Wednesday, November 11, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Video Instructions
- Learn your part of the song "I Opened My Mouth."
- Sing your part of the song in the video. Click here to download your part recording.
- Sing another song of your choice (1–2 minutes)
- You will submit your audition video by uploading to a Google Drive folder. You will receive access to the Google Drive folder after completing the registration form.
