Corey Boatner

Friday, May 08, 2020

Major: Contemporary Dance

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

Corey was a member of the African American Dance Company (AADC) for two semesters.

Q: What have you loved most about being a part of AADC?

A: What I have loved most about AADC would have to be how close the ensemble members are. We truly turn into a family, and I couldn't be more thankful for now having all these incredible people in my life.

Q: What's one of your favorite memories during your time in AADC?

A: One of my favorite memories while being in AADC has to be when we "accidentally" sit and talk for three hours. The time races by, and we talk about everything that bothers us, makes us happy, and what we need to achieve to truly be the best versions of ourselves!

Q: What advice would you give to incoming students?

A: Some advice that I would give to incoming students would be to try and get involved in the Black IU community sooner rather than later. I am so sad it took me four years to find my way to what I had been craving the entire time: To dance with people who looked liked me!
