Q: What have you loved most about being a part of AADC?
A: I love that we are a huge family, and I appreciate how AADC and the AAAI have operated as a safe space for myself and others. I love dancing as it is a passion of mine, being a dance minor, and AADC gave me the opportunity to just dance freely. It has pushed my limits in a good way, changed the way I think, and has helped me to create so many bonds with people just through the common things that we all so happen to love: dancing, singing, and performing.
Q: What's one of your favorite memories during your time in AADC?
A: One of my favorite memories was a sleepover that AADC had. We all were listening to music and dancing (of course!), playing card games, laughing, and eating some great food. We had catfish and spaghetti, and it was fire!!! I had just returned to the company for the spring semester having not been in it the fall semester, due to a scheduling conflict with another course. However, coming back and having a great night of bonding really reminded me that although I left for a semester, I had not left my family. It was a great way to start the semester off and we had a great time.
Q: What advice would you give to incoming students?
A: Other than directly focusing on academics, find different clubs, groups, and organizations to join. You never know who you might meet along the way, as the people you meet could be your coworker, closest friend, and may become a part of your extended family. Open yourself to new experiences if you can. Have fun while doing your absolute best academically and be involved in your community. Enjoy the process of it all!
Q: Anything else you want to share?
A: I am so grateful for the people that I have met and the experiences I had within the AAAI. I especially appreciate my AADC family, Professor Rosa, and Baba Stafford. You all have given me so much love and support, and you helped me build my confidence. If it weren't for you all, I don't know where I would be right now. I love you all, and I'm excited to call myself an IU graduate and an alumna of the AAAI!
